A Closer Look
Firstly taking a look at the connections of this headset we find there are 2*3.5 mm jack connections, which are the standard headphone and microphone connections. This allows you to plug it into both laptops and even professional level sound cards. There is however a USB connector that these two can plug into which is an audio adaptor which features two Dolby algorithms: Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby Headphone.

This allows 2-channel stereo audio to be converted into five-channel surround output. This also makes the headset much more plug and play as you are more likely to have access to spare USB connections, as well as Windows automatically adjusting for a headset.

There is also a switch on the USB adaptor which enables or turns on the Dolby set-up, without this you just get standard 2-channel stereo.

Moving further up the cable is a in-line volume control as well as a microphone-mute switch. This allows easy audio adjustment and does not alter the computer output volume as other headsets have done in the past.

Nearing the headset, we will first take a look at the hidden microphone, which when found can be pulled down into the standard headset position. Can you spot the microphone in this picture? (Hint: Bright sticker!)

This microphone is a noise-cancelling microphone so will compensate for any sounds in the room as well as the sounds being played through your headset. The microphone boom is slightly rubberised so the positioning can be adjusted slightly although it is fairly springy.

The headband as such is quite large but this is expected as this is a large headset. It is unlike others cushioned quite heavily which is nice. In fact the cushion part of the headband is nearly 1” thick. It is however very soft so compresses well, but this does allow you to wear the headset for long periods of time without it digging in or feeling uncomfortable.

Finally, we move to the business end of the headset, which is of course the Ear Cups as such; they are however an open-ear design meaning you can still hear your surroundings while remaining connected to the game.

They do fully encompass your ears with quite large ear cups but at the bottom they are very much cushioned and on the back they are not heavily sound-proofed allowing you to hear sounds around you but just quite faintly. On the back of the ear-cups you find a mesh around the join of the headband which allows the speakers to freely move the air giving a more natural and not clammed-up sound. (See 3rd picture above). The headset itself incorporates 40mm diameter speakers which are pretty large although this is a standard size for the larger headsets. There is of course only one cable going into the left-hand ear cup.

We can also see the Plantronics and Gamecom.

The headband also of course expands for those of you with ‘large heads’ or at least to make sure it fits comfortably.
