Sony released its new firmware update for the PlayStation 4 this week, version 3.0, which introduced user enhancements, Twitter video sharing capabilities, YouTube streaming refinements, and a dedicated PlayStation Plus section. However, reports have emerged from PS4 users on reddit and gaming forums that the update has stopped the console from running certain games.
One reddit user complained:
“Since updating this morning, my system refuses to start disc based games past the game’s initial boot screen where returning to the home screen is disabled. The only way out of this hang is to pull the plug because if I use the power menu and shut down it will sit there infinitely with the flashing white LED and do nothing. Download games work fine, discs do not. Rebuilt the database now three times with zero results, reinstalled the update now four times with zero difference.”
Other users have echoed the problem above, with some suggesting that uninstalling and reinstalling games solves the issue in some cases.
The reported problems are only anecdotal at present, with no official acknowledgement from Sony on the matter, but if the problem proves to be as widespread as user testimony seems to suggest, the company is sure to patch it soon.
