The PlayStation 5 is quite the powerhouse of a console, offering 4K gaming, a huge library of games including many exclusive titles, and the ability to upgrade your storage with a standard M.2 drive unlike the competitions overpriced expansion modules. The PS5 is a solid choice for those not wanting to blow big bucks on a PC and arguably better than it’s Xbox competition. Shining a light on this consoles success is the recent announcement from Sony of reaching 50 million sales worldwide.
SONY announced yesterday that it’s latest gaming console has surpassed 50 million units sold worldwide. It has been three years since it’s original launch in 2020 which was plagued with supply chain issues and scalping problems much like many other areas of the market in the tech space. Despite all these issues, the PS5 pulled through and has proven a popular choice amongst consumers.
Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners,” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We’re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we’re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since launch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles – so anyone who wants to get one can get one.”
This number is sure to increase furthermore throughout the next 3 or more years of the consoles lifecycle especially with the recently released Slim models which I’m sure will be making some great Christmas gifts very soon.
