PlayStation Classic Reportedly Selling Poorly In Japan

PlayStation Classic Selling Poorly In Japan

Given the huge success that the NES and SNES classics saw, you would have thought that the PlayStation Classic was also bound to be onto a winning formula. I mean, take an old system, slap a bunch of popular games on it, charge less than £100 and see them fly off the shelves right? Well, in this instance no. The PlayStation Classic, while selling is being met with something of an underwhelming feeling.

In a report via Media Create though, it seems that sales figures in Japan (practically the biggest market for Sony) has been very poor indeed!

Poor Sales!

The figures show that for its first week on sale in Japan, the PlayStation classic sold only 120,000 units. When compared to the SNES classic, which sold a little under 3-times this amount, it becomes clear that despite Sony’s popularity in Japan, people are not getting excited about this release.

Surprising News!

I have to admit, this is very surprising. Traditionally Sony has always proven to be an exceptionally popular company in Japan. It’s for this reason, for example, that Microsoft has always struggled to break into the market. This was particularly seen with the release of the Xbox One X in Japan which sold less than 2,000 units on release day.

To see the PlayStation Classic suffering so badly there is, therefore, surprising. Then again, given its tepid response throughout the world, is it really?

What do you think? Do you own a PlayStation Classic? Why do you think the sales are so poor? – Let us know in the comments!
