The PlayStation Neo is Sony’s upcoming console which offers significantly better hardware than the current model. This is unheard of in the console market and it seems the days of only offering one specification could be behind us. Microsoft is employing a similar strategy with the Scorpio console and it will be interesting to see if this makes more people consider moving to the PC platform. Unfortunately, the Neo wasn’t displayed during E3 this year as the focus remained on Sony’s core gaming line-up. Thankfully, Andrew House the President and Group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the console is being prepared and made a brief statement about its target market.
Recently, Andrew House discussed the Neo with a Japanese PlayStation magazine and said:
It’s interesting to hear Andrew House dismiss some people’s analysis that they’re inspired by the lifecycle of mobile handsets. Additionally, they don’t appear to be releasing the Neo just because the standard unit is incapable of producing a good VR experience. On another note, the console will apparently launch this year which is a sentiment shared by Tidux. This source also claims that the Neo will retail for $399, 399 Euros and £349.
This is an exciting time for the gaming industry and I cannot wait to see what the PlayStation Neo is capable of. Originally dubbed the PS4K, the console will probably feature 1080P 60 frames-per-second gameplay and include support for 4K video.
