Plextor Announces the Official Launch of the EX1 Drive

It has been a couple of months since I had the pleasure to review Plextor’s EX1 portable SSD and since then I’m sure that a lot of people have been wanting to get their hands on this impressive little drive – and now they can. Plextor has officially launched the drive and it should be available now.

The Plextor EX1 is a tiny SSD drive that only weighs about 30 grams, yet it is capable of transfer speeds up to 550MB/s thanks to the use of an M.2 drive internally and the USB 3.1 Gen.2 interface that can deliver up to 10Gbps throughput. The times where portable storage was slow in comparison is a thing of the past with drives like this.

The Plextor EX1 comes with a USB type-C connector and a type-C to type-A cable, but you could also get yourself a type-C to type-C cable and use it directly on your mobile devices with the same type port. The Plextor EX1 supports OTG and can as such be used with any Android phone, tablet, or other devices that support the same.

Plextor’s Senior Director Eva Lee stated, “Data transfer speed, durability, and stability are the key factors for consumers when shopping for an external storage device. Plextor’s highly regarded SSD technology has given EX1 its excellent reading/writing speeds, an extended service life, and stable performance. The new generation Type-C interface offers even faster connectivity with the latest computers and mobile devices. Sophisticated, lightning-fast, shock resistant, and durable, EX1 establishes a new standard for the next generation of external storage devices.”

The highly durable SSD storage core eliminates common problems associated with external hard drives such as shaking and over-heating. The EX1 is shock resistance and silent while the simple and elegant curved design provides an elegant exterior. It is available in both gold and titanium silver finishes and comes with an included carrying pouch. It even supports AES-256 encryption through the bundled software.

The EX1 comes in three capacity options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, has a mean time before failure rating of 2.4 million hours and it is covered by an impressive five-year warranty.
