Plextor M9PeY 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD with RGB Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing and Availability

The M9Pe series has only just been released today, so we don’t have any actual price listings yet. However, we can tell you the MSRP. The M9PeY with 512GB that I tested today comes with an MSRP of $250.80 USD while the other two sizes will cost you $149.80 USD and $461.80 USD respectively.

The M.2 module with the heatsink is little cheaper at $124.8, $225.90, and $436.80 for the 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions. The cheapest model is the bare M.2 module which will cost you $112.30, $213.40, and $424.30.

Conclusion

It is no surprise that Plextor is considered one of the top SSD brands, their drives simply deliver. It was no different today when I tested the newest drive out of the house of Plextor, the M9PeY PCIe add-in card with 512GB capacity. The drive delivered an impressive performance, especially when we’re looking at the random performance. A fast sequential performance is great, and we saw that, but it is the random performance that will give you the noticeable difference in loading times.

I really like that Plextor caters to all customers with their drives and not just a select few. The series features a bare M.2 module, an M.2 module with a heatsink, and the PCIe add-in card which I tested today. That’s a drive for every situation. All three come in three capacity options which should satisfy most people. 1TB NVMe SSD is plenty for most setups.

Design is a matter of taste, but I quite like the M9Pe. The heat sink is well made and looks great too. Not only that, it’s also very effective at heat dissipation which prevents thermal throttling under heavy load situations. NVMe drives run hot and heatsink or cooling of some sort is required. As a bonus, the M9PeY also features RGB lighting. Everything is rounded off with a 5-year warranty which in itself speaks volumes. I wouldn’t hesitate to run my system of the M9PeY.

“Plextor shows us how an SSD should be made, again. The M9PeY delivers and it looks good doing so.”
