At the time of writing, the Plextor S2 (S2C) 512GB SATA3 SSD was listed on Amazon for just $154.99 in the US. That’s only $0.30 per GB of speedy SSD storage.

Overview

The Plextor S2 series is built with first-time SSD adopters in mind, but those aren’t the only ones that will be able to enjoy this S2C 512GB SSD. It’s a great and solid product as-is and the Plextor adds on top of that with great software options that increase both the value of the drive as well as its performance and lifetime. That should already make the choice which SSD to get a lot easier. The S2 series is built with quality components and it has been heavily tested with a zero-fail tolerance.

As mentioned above, the S2C performs great on its own and showed us speeds up to 560MB/s when reading and 530MB/s while writing, but that can be increased up to 12 times with the use of PlexTurbo caching. The added bonus of PlexVault for secure file keeping and PlexCompressor for extra storage capacity further add to the value of the drive and its available usage. The performance also stays above the 200MB/s during long sequential write operations which often is a problem for TLC drives. But not so for the Plextor S2C and that’s thanks to the PlexNitro technology.

The drive comes with all the basic features, but also more advanced ones such as the LDPC error correction technology and PlexNitro which gives you the full drive capacity without the need for over-provisioning. Overall, a complete solution that will be a great drive as your first SSD, but it isn’t limited to those. It performs great and will fit most modern systems. Last but not least, it comes with a great endurance testing, full availability of the capacity, and it is backed by a 3-year warranty.
