Plextor Showcases M8V Series at CES 2018

We visited Plextor at CES 2018 and took a closer look at their new drives. Among them is the M8V which is the successor to the M7V. You might remember those from our M7V 2.5-inch and M.2 reviews.

Plextor M8V Series

The new M8V series is built with 3D TLC 64-layer NAND which is the latest generation. It is capable of up to 560MB/s during sequential reads and up to 520MB/s during writes. The random performance climbs up to 82K IOPS when reading and 81K when writing. A nicely balanced drive!

Just as the predecessor, this drive comes as both a 2.5-inch and an M.2 form factor. With those two form factors, most of the userbase is covered. Capacity wise, you will be able to get these drives with up to 512GB capacity. Logic dictates that the other capacity options will be 256GB and 128GB. Maybe also just a 256GB and no 128GB version.

Built with Plextor Technologies

Just as any other Plextor drive, the M8V is built with the things that make them great. Among that is the PlexNitro technology which allows the drive to utilise the full NAND capacity. You also get built-in LDPC ECC technology and there’s the great bundle of software that accompanies every Plextor SATA drive.

We currently don’t know when this new series will become available, but we’ll surely have the reviews ready for you when they do. So stay tuned for more and stay tuned for more CES 2018 news.
