Pricing
PNY’s recommend retail price for this particular kit is $149.99 and available directly from their website. However, the memory has already been discounted to $124.99 on Amazon.com and offers exceptional value for money. At this price, you would expect to either choose between a 2400MHz quad channel configuration or 2800-3000MHz dual channel kit. PNY have combined both of these important aspects to maximize bandwidth. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I could find any stockists of this memory kit throughout the whole of Europe! Hopefully, this should change but it’s something to keep in mind.
Summary
The PNY AnarchyX 2800MHz kit is one of the best packages around due to its high bandwidth, impeccable pricing and gorgeous aesthetic design. From a visual standpoint, the black PCB and unique styling combines in a wonderful manner and looks astonishing! Additionally, there’s a hint of red on the heat spreaders which works perfectly in coordination with a red and black gaming motherboard. Also, PNY offers the AnarchyX in a red and blue version to suit a wide variety of colour schemes. Clearly, the red and black option is quite popular among system builders and seems a sensible choice. On another note, the memory measures a total height of 31.75mm which makes it compatible with certain air coolers like the Noctua NH-D15S. As always it’s important to check the clearance of each cooler and memory height to ensure compatibility.
In terms of performance, the RAM consistently reigned supreme compared to other 16GB kits and attained superb results. This applies to every benchmark from AIDA64 to Cinebench. Furthermore, the kit’s rating of 1.2V and 2800MHz is a superb combination and perfectly stable without needing to increase the voltage. This exemplifies the IC quality and excellent CAS rating to frequency ratio. It’s a staggering achievement given the affordable price point and I didn’t expect such a finely balanced kit.
The overclocking process was remarkably simple and I only increased the voltage to 1.35 to attain 3042MHz. This is a great boost over an already high frequency and remained stable without having to loosen the timings. Often, modules operating at 2800MHz and above lack overclocking headroom and already performing at their peak potential. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case with the PNY AnarchyX and the overclocking ability to reach over 3000MHz was somewhat surprising. Clearly, the average gamer doesn’t require memory reaching such a high bandwidth, but it’s a nice addition if the price is within touching distance of 2400MHz options.
Overall, PNY have manufactured the perfect memory kit for high-end gamers demanding frequencies above 2400MHz without breaking the bank. It’s visually stunning, and completely stable even when a fairly large overclock has been applied from factory settings.
