Pokémon Go is gearing up for the holidays to run a promotional event that will give players better chances to get Togepi and Pichu eggs. Developer Niantic has expanded the popular mobile game’s roster several weeks ago to include second generation Pokémon Gold and Silver characters including the ever adorable Togepi and Pichu. These new characters can be captured by acquiring and hatching eggs from Pokéstops. The holiday event runs from morning of December 25th through the afternoon of January 3rd. Also, the “special edition” version of Pikachu wearing a festive holiday hat is also available until December 29th but has been extended further (no specific designated extension date). Even more bonus for players, they will be able to nab single-use incubator everyday after the first spin of the Pokéstop photo disc.
For those uninitiated with Pokémon lore, Pichu is a miniature yellow rodent that evolves into a Pikachu with a high enough friendship level. Togepi on the other hand is a fairy-type character that appears to be partially stuck to the egg it hatched out of. Kei Kawai, director of product at Niantic, Inc., said of the update:
As we race toward 2017, we can’t help but feel grateful for the support and reaction the Pokémon GO community has given us, and we’re delighted to start rolling out select Pokémon for them to hatch. We’re also looking forward to celebrating the season with our community by introducing a Pikachu wearing a festive hat, providing Trainers the opportunity to get out and explore their neighborhoods with friends and family as they gather for the holidays.
