Portal 2 Gets Free VR Mod

There are few games as iconic as Portal, and while I’m sure it’s a subject up for debate, I think the sequel is even better than the first (prove me wrong!). However, as fun as the game is, have you ever imagined how fun… or potentially sickeningly nauseating it would be to play it in VR? Well I have, and now you can join me in finding out if it’s a blast or a barf fest!

Portal 2 VR

Modder Gistix has released their VR mod from Portal 2, aptly named Portal 2 VR, while allowing you to experience the puzzle-laden madness in 6DOF VR, and with full motion controls too, allowing you to sling portals and make yourself dizzy.

Gameplay

There’s even a showcase of this mod in action, with a 20-minute gameplay video that you can check out below. however, keep in mind, that this is still a work-in-progress mod, so there are likely to be bugs and some other issues, and the pause menu and UI are still not working, but it looks like it’s off to a great start.

How to Play

If you’re eager to get into the action, hit up the link right here, and download the mod to try it out. If you do, please send us a video of when you inevitably fall over.

How to Use This Mod

  • Download the NEWEST Portal2VR.zip and extract the files to your Portal 2 directory (steamapps\common\Portal 2)
  • Connect your headset, then launch Portal 2 with these launch options:-insecure -window -novid +mat_motion_blur_percent_of_screen_max 0 +mat_queue_mode 0 +mat_vsync 0 +mat_antialias 0 +mat_grain_scale_override 0 -width 1280 -height 720
  • At the menu, feel free to change these video settings.
  • Load into a chapter.
  • To recenter the camera height, press down on the left stick. To see the HUD, aim the controller up or down.
