During Computex this year, PowerColor showcased the DEVIL external graphics box which is based on AMD’s XConnect technology. This ingenious device employs the Thunderbolt 3 interface and allows users to install their own discrete graphics card and revolutionise the performance of laptops. Even though the latest Pascal laptops aren’t too far behind desktop versions, the Maxwell offerings pale in comparison and now struggle to cope with the latest titles. The PowerColor DEVIL box supports video cards with a maximum TDP of 375W and 310mm x 140mm x 50mm dimensions. The device itself measures 400mm x 172mm x 242mm and has a 500-watt internal power supply. On another note, the unit contains four USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, Gigabit Ethernet and laptop charging via Thunderbolt 3 (PowerDelivery 2.0 up to 60-watts.)
After a lengthy development period, PowerColor has finalised the design and allowed retailers to begin selling the product. However, the quantity is very limited at this time and can only be purchased from the following websites:
First On-Shelf Countries:
US: http://www.newegg.com
Germany: http://www.mindfactory.de/
UK: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/
China: https://www.jd.com/
Second On-Shelf Countries:
Japan: https://www.amazon.co.jp/
Singapore: http://www.banleong.com/
In terms of pricing, the PowerColor DEVIL box has an MSRP of $379 and 419 Euros. As per usual, we will be requesting a sample and cannot wait to test this innovative graphics enclosure.
