It emerged recently that AMD would be allowing its partners to create HD 7970 X2 graphics cards, something we haven’t really seen since the HD 4870 X2 a long time ago. The first HD 7970 X2 design has been spotted and is courtesy of Powercolor. Powercolor have equipped the HD 7970 X2 with their Devil 13 branding and associated customisations.
The Devil 13 HD 7970 X2 gets Powercolor’s Vortex III cooler which is a triple fan cooler, as the name would suggest, with what looks to be three 80mm fans. The colour scheme follows an ATi-traditional red and black colour, with a custom designed shroud.
The dual HD 7970 chips mean 6GB of GDDR5 memory in total, although as with all dual GPU configurations this means effectively there is only 3GB on offer since each GPU’s memory mirrors the other. The memory interface remains at 384bits and the three 8 pin power connectors hint at the cards huge 525W TDP.
Expect to see much more about this card as Computex 2012 takes place.
