Powerfreakz Evolution 3000 Portable Solar Charger Review

With everything out of the packaging and the protective shipping plastic removed, we can take a closer look at the relatively compact unit. The front half of the unit has a clear cover to allow light to pass through to the solar panel inside.
On the front, the main portion of the unit is made up of a solar panel which charges the unit when sat in a light enough environment. Charging automatically starts with no user interaction required when there is enough light available.
Around the Powerfreakz branding, the circle is made up of 5 LEDs which either indicate that unit is charging by continuously building up or the remaining level of battery charge available when on static.
The base of the charger consists of a mini-USB port for mains charging of the battery pack, a power button to turn the charging on/off and a USB port for connecting the device to be charged.
The glossy rear of the case is plain black apart from some model information and specifications including the large 3000mAh capacity when fully charged.
When there is not enough light available to naturally charge, or you need to give the unit a quick boost, then plugging it into the mains is the quickest solution. We also found that you can connect an iPhone cable to the output of the unit at the same time (in our case) and charge both at the same time.
As demonstrated here, our iPhone 4 happily recharges when plugged in using the included tip and retractable cable.
