Powerful Gigabyte 10 GbE Networking Solution at Computex 2016

Thunderbolt 3 leverages a lot of bandwidth with which it is possible to create a lot of new devices and interconnect everything. Due to its nature in design, Thunderbolt is highly adaptive whether you want it for video signals, data signals, or other connections.

Gigabyte presented their T3 X550-AT2 devices at Computex and it’s a quite useful little devices. As the name already suggests, it uses Intel X550-AT2 controllers to deliver double 10 Gigabit Ethernet to any system that features Thunderbolt 3, whether it’s stationary or mobile.

In its essence, the box is very simple. It uses what looks like a default PCI-Express low profile card in a custom PCB that converts the signals to be delivered back to the PC via Thunderbolt. While the design might be simple, the usability is awesome and I for once welcome more 10GbE devices on the market. We have been stuck with an aging 1 Gbps standard for way too long when it comes to setups outside of enterprises and large server farms. With the increase in storage bandwidth, it’s time that we get an upgrade on the network bandwidth as well or we’ll end up with yet another bottleneck in our systems.
