PowerVR on Intel Atom?
Andy Ruffell / 14 years ago
We all know that Intel’s Atom is purely a joke in the graphics arena. So much of a joke in fact, that nVidia had to step in with its ION lineup.
But lets look past the power-conscious CPU’s flaws, and focus on what Intel are going to do to fix them in Cedarview, the next Atom generation. We all know Intel’s in-house graphics sector is, lacking, to say the least, and so it’s nice to see PowerVR stepping in with their solutions. According to the above slide from VR-Zone, ladies and gentlemen, the same GPU, albeit the slightly faster version, embeded into some newer mobile devices such as the iPad 2 (SGX543), is going to be inside Atom CPU’s.
VR-Zone reports that Intel have been working closely with the architecture and the GMA 500/600 to bring support for OpenGL 3.0, DirectX 10.1 and some hardware accelerated video decoding for MPEG-4, VC1, MPEG-2, H.264 and WMV 9.
