Pretec P240 USB 3.0 Multi Card Reader Review

There generally isn’t a great deal that you can say about a card reader, after all its one of those things that we take for granted, however, with faster cards coming onto the market, we all want to make the most of their speed not only on the business end (typically cameras of all sorts) but also the editing end as well. We see lots of card readers popping up and on the most part they are just do items that allow you to do the job, but not with any great speed.
The small tight package that the P240 comes in is handy for those on the go with the USB part of the reader detaching and simply stowing away in the base, making the reader easy to store in a laptop or camera bag with no worry of potential damage to the USB jack.
Performance wise, we have only looked at the SDHC reader because , as you can imagine, we don;t have a real need to have a plethora of different memory card formats lying about. SD though is typically one of the fastest formats going and so would still be the best one to try it out with.
Card readers are not something that you want to spend a great deal on, after all its not a glitz and glamour item. That said, the P240 can be found for around £18, which when marked against everything else is very reasonably priced considering its compact and offers up some of the best performance from the your card on the PC side of its use. Because of this I’m happy to give it our bang for buck award.
