When we look at those of us that use memory cards lot, the first use that comes to mind is photography. Some of us, like myself, I can be taking dozens of photos a day, especially when I’m at events. At the end of the day, I want to load and view the photos as quickly as I can so that I can get them processed and edited ready for publishing alongside everything else that needs doing.
On the market, like the cards themselves, there are many readers to chose from and naturally the vast majority of these offer average performance, but don’t necessarily allow the card itself to run at the same speeds that the cameras for example can. This does lead to longer waiting times when copying data from the card and in the long run this time all adds up.
We’ve taken a look at a few Pretec products recently, including their 32GB 433x SDHC card. Another one of their products that we are looking at today is a multi function USB3.0 card reader, that not only offers up full USB3.0 bandwidth, but has the potential to allow cards to run at their true speed, thus speeding up the work that is to be done after a day of photo shooting for example.
The P240 offers connectivity for all the major card formats and a number of lesser used formats, but ones are that are found all the same. How it performs in the real world however is what we are here to find out and to see if its really worth getting a higher end reader rather than a run of the mill option, so lets turn the page and see what Pretec have to offer.
