Price of 2GB DDR3 modules hit all time low

The prices of 2GB DDR3 modules has been incredibly low for a while now and according to one source they are now at just $10.25 for each 2GB module. While 4GB modules went for $18.50. 2GB memory chips sold for $0.70 on the spot market – a 10% decrease over the past two weeks. The reason for the low prices is large over supply which is benefiting PC vendors and consumers but not DRAM manufacturers.

DRAM producer Nanya says the current prices are “too low” and cannot go any lower. The market cannot recover until either production is reduced or demand picks up substantially. It will last for about another two quarters so those who want to get their hands on extra cheap RAM still have a while to do so. The floods in Thailand have apparently damaged the DRAM market further as over inflated hard drive prices have caused a decline in the number of built systems being shipped and sold which would obviously need RAM to function.
