A kickstarter campaign was recently launched by a company known as QUO in an effort to raise the required funds to mass produce a motherboard which can boot any operating system that you choose, including MAC OSX, under 10 seconds.
The company’s Z77MX-QUO-AOS motherboard, codenamed “ProjectQ”, was made by Gigabyte U.S. as an OEM project exclusively. It will be using mATX form factor with rear I/O connectors such as Firewire 400 and 800, Thunderbolt ports, DVI, HDMI, 2X USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0 and an Intel LAN and the usual audio connectors. The motherboard is built using Intel’s Z77 chipset as the model number made it clear.
But the company stated that they will also be offering limited Edition system with this motherboard and with custom chassis design based on a SilverStone design starting with the base price of $869 and up to $2,500 for a fully loaded system.
Quo assured that the motherboard is perfected and have tested the BIOS/UEFI with developers from China, England, Romania and United States. The team also assured that they will continue to support the BIOS/ UEFI after release and the motherboard comes with a 3 year warranty.
If you pledge for $219, you will be one of the first to get ProjectQ motherboard. At the time of writing, there are currently 97 backers with a pledge of $28,060 out of $87,000 secured. The first 100 pledges will be the lucky ones to get the first batch of these motherboards that will be completed in 6 weeks.
Quo is a company that started back in 2009 as a retail store where they allowed customers to walk-in and test graphic cards and peripherals. They aim to make a milestone in 2013 by introducing their first motherboard to be made from scratch to run any OS. What should be noted is that the company assures that this motherboard is overclocking capable, nice!
For minimum $239, you shall get the motherboard with serial number stating with 2, for $269 minimum, it will get you a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi capable version of the Z77MX-QUO-AOS motherboard along with collector’s edition serial number and documented certificate. These motherboards will be shipped outside the U.S. as well but you’ll need to add $36-$40 extra for shipping charges.
Its with the amount of $869, $1199 or $2,500 minimum you get a complete system build. Only the base version that costs $869 which will get you a system with this motherboard+ i5 3.4 GHz, 8GB memory, 1TB Hard drive with a DVD burner, an “overclocking” capable case with a collector certificate can be shipped worldwide, whereas the $1,199 and $2,500 version will be shipped only within United States.
