Prototype Glasses by Mini Provide X-Ray Vision

Driving a car is a unique experience, and I personally enjoy it every time I get behind the wheel. However, even though I’m used to paying attention to many things at once now, I think that driving would be so much easier and so much more fun with the help of augmented reality. The experts over at Mini seem to agree with me, as they are currently working on a pair of augmented reality glasses that can provide X-ray vision among other things. As opposed to Google’s Glass technology, Mini’s version doesn’t just boast a small display in a corner that you need to look to. With these glasses, the driver can enjoy a “look through” experience, as all notifications are placed directly into his or her field of view in a non-obstructive manner.

As far as the X-ray vision is concerned, it relies on a series of cameras placed on the exterior of the vehicle. When the driver looks to the right or left, the glasses pick up feeds from these cameras thus allowing clear views through the car’s doors or body panels. A working prototype of these glasses was tested recently by BBC’s North America technology correspondent, Richard Taylor, and you can see the results for yourself in the video below.

What do you think about this technology?
