Sony has released a firmware update for its PlayStation Vita, the 3.00 firmware, which introduces the first of its PlayStation 4 compatible features named PS4 Link.
Launched ahead of the PS4, the update is designed to introduce compatibility between the Vita and Sony’s next generation console. Once installed, gamers who pick up a PS4 will be able to connect their Vita handhelds to the console wirelessly in order to control the console and stream games directly to the hand-held.
The PlayStation 3’s feature is also renamed to PS3 Remote Play, and adds the ability to voice chat and send instant messages to PS4 users directly from the console. Players will also be able to view any ‘Trophies’ earned through gameplay on a PS4 once the update is installed.
Additional new features include improved parental controls, a Panoramic Camera mode linked to the internal accelerometer, and a revamped Friends list which splits the content into four separate tabs: Find Player on PSN, Friends, Friend Requests and Players Blocked. The Group Messaging software also gets a rename to just Messages, and adds compatibility for sending and receiving messages to PS4 and the PlayStation App running on smartphones or tablets.
The update is available for free and can be downloaded via the Vita’s settings menu.
