The Playstation Vita launches next month and Sony announced a new bundle for the 3G/WiFi version of the handheld on Friday that includes some extra items without increasing the price.
The PS Vita Launch Bundle is available for pre-order at $299.99 and comes with an 8GB memory card, a free downloadable PSN game and an AT&T DataConnect Pass that is good for one free 250MB session. This is a promotional offer for the Vita and is available in limited quantities according to Sony at stores like Amazon and GameStop.
There is one catch though. You’ll need to activate the Vita with AT&T to receive the free PSN game and to be able to use the DataConnect Pass. The good news is that there’s no contract with AT&T for the PS Vita data plan.
This isn’t a bad deal for the Vita considering that the WiFi only model is $249.99 and the 8GB memory card is $29.99. The PSN game is likely between $15-$20 so you’re getting the 3G/WiFi model while spending about the same amount as you would on the WiFi only model. We won’t like though and say that we wouldn’t like to see at least a memory card bundled in with the cheaper version of the handheld.
The Launch Bundle comes out on February 22 while the First Edition Bundle comes out on February 15. It includes the free PSN game and DataConnect Pass plus a 4GB memory card, free copy of Little Deviants and a limited edition carrying case.
We can’t say that this bundle offer comes as much of a surprise given the much documented struggle the Vita is undergoing in Japan. Weekly sales of Sony’s newest handheld have fallen behind the PSP. Clearly, the company wants to give a boost to the more expensive of the two models.
