PS VR 2 PC Adapter Certification Hints at Official PC Support in 2024

Sony has taken a significant step towards bringing the PlayStation VR2 to PC users. Recent reports reveal that the company has submitted a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter for certification. This move aligns with Sony’s earlier announcement about expanding VR2 support to PCs.

Certification Details

An alert user on Twitter, Brad Lynch, discovered that Sony filed for the adapter’s certification with South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. The adapter, identified by the model number CFI-ZVP1, appears to be a straightforward solution for connecting the VR2 headset to a PC.

This adapter could potentially open up new avenues for VR enthusiasts with high-performance PCs. Currently, the PlayStation VR2 is exclusive to the PS5, limiting its accessibility. With the adapter, users may not need a PS5 to experience the VR2’s capabilities. This could significantly expand the headset’s user base, given the growing interest in PC VR gaming.

Market Impact

Sony’s decision comes amidst reports of surplus PlayStation VR2 units. Bundling the adapter with these units could attract more PC gamers, leveraging the VR2’s advanced features like OLED displays and built-in tracking. This move might also spark the integration of VR2-specific features in existing PC VR games.

Sony hinted at this development earlier this year. In a blog post, the company mentioned, “We’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC.” They aim to offer this support within 2024, broadening the VR2’s gaming ecosystem.

Overall, the certification of the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter marks a promising step towards enhanced VR gaming experiences for PC users.
