PS1 Style Racing Game “Old School Rally” Heading to Early Access

I’m a big fan of old-school racing games, but since I am turning 40 this year, I played these games when they were modern, new, and in many cases the cutting edge of technology. Largely, my racing game favourites still reside in the PlayStation 1 era, it’s a generation of consoles that I think had more truly iconic racing games than any other system before or since.

Gran Turismo, Crash Team Racing, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Motorhead, Ridge Racer 4, Colin McRae Rally 2, RollCage, TOCA, F1 97, ReVolt, Carmageddon, Porsche Challenge, Test Drive 5, Vanishing Point, V-Rally 2, Demolition Derby, and the list goes on and on.

And much to my excitement, Old School Rally has just appeared on Steam, and while there is no release date beyond 2024, it’s marked as Early Access, so I suspect we’ll see it appear pretty soon. The description reads that it “features fast-paced, arcade-style gameplay, with emphasis on driving skill and high-speed manoeuvres.” As you can see in the trailers, it has that classic 90’s arcade and PlayStation-era visual style that hits that nostalgia nerve perfectly for me.

Developed by a solo developer with passion about the classic 3D rally games, trying to fill a gap that is missing from modern rally games.
