In the battle of the consoles the development team at Gaijin Games, working on War Thunder, have chimed in with their input. They believe that the PS4 has a much stronger GPU component than the Xbox One which is of significant importance to most games. They stated to Edge that:
“GPU, like 40 per cent more powerful. DDR5 is basically 50 per cent more powerful than DDR3, but the memory write is bigger on Xbox One so it depends on what you’re doing.”
Gaijin Games stated that it could create two versions of the game optimised for each set of hardware, and this would allow the PS4 version to boast greatly improved graphics over the Xbox One, but instead they are aiming for parity on both platforms as to not bias in favour of either platform. That said the game currently isn’t planned for an Xbox One release because of difficulties with certifications and implementing the free to play model on the Xbox One. In the future the game could arrive on Xbox One hence why the game is not being PS4 optimised.
“Microsoft… they have yet to decide how they’re doing online free-to-play and self-published games. They’re pretty far from that, even with their latest initiative…They need to stop talking and start basically doing something. Because right now you need to certify your servers with Microsoft, you need to make… it’s not yet clear if there will be updates. If you can’t make updates without Microsoft [approval] they ruin the idea of online gaming, basically. They’ve said there’ll be some kind of opportunity [for that] but haven’t yet said quite exactly how it’ll be working.”
