PS4 Pro 4K TV Issues Down to Firmware – Potential Fix Revealed

Since its release, multiple owners have reported issues connecting their new PS4 Pro to their 4K televisions, and it now seems likely that the issue is only affecting TVs built prior to 2016. While the PS4 Pro ships with the PS4 system software update 4.0 installed – in this state, it remains compatible with pretty much every modern TV it is plugged into – it updates to v4.05 the moment it is connected to the internet, at which point the console stops working with some TVs.

So far, the common thread between all affected users is that they’re using older 4K TVs, made primarily by LG, Hisense, and Vizio. Redditor Bravo514 reported that he encountered incompatibility issues with his Ps4 Pro after the console updated to firmware v4.05.

“Plugged my Pro in and it booted up in beautiful 2160pm” writes Bravo514. “Then it asked me to update to 4.05. After update – no signal. I thought my Pro was fried. I’ve heard other people are experiencing this as well.”

Thankfully, Bravo514 found a workaround for the issue, eventually getting the PS4 Pro to work with a Vizio D-Series 4K TV.

Here is Bravo514’s solution:

  1. Make sure your PS4 is off
  2. Plug the hdmi into the 4K 60hz port on your tv
  3. Turn your tv on
  4. Hold down the power button on your PS4 until it beeps twice (Safe mode)
  5. Change HDCP setting to 1.4 only
  6. PS4 will restart and you’ll probably still have no signal
  7. Turn PS4 off and get back to Safe Mode (step 4)
  8. Choose change resolution which will restart PS4
  9. If you get an image after PS4 restarts then choose the yuv420 option. Hooray!
  10. If you got no signal still after PS4 restarted then go back to safe mode and go back to HDCP and choose automatic
  11. Got back to safe mode again and choose change resolution and then choose yuv420
  12. If still not working then try the above steps a couple more times

Sony is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
