PS5 Dashboard Glitch Replaces Game Art with Ads, Sony Confirms It Was a Technical Error

PlayStation 5 users recently experienced an unexpected issue where their game art backgrounds were replaced by promotional messages and ads on the dashboard. The glitch surfaced over the weekend, leaving gamers confused and frustrated as they saw promotions for expired discounts and outdated game news. Hovering over popular titles would bring up full-screen ads, instead of the usual game art.
Many gamers took to social media platforms to voice their concerns. In response, PlayStation’s official Ask PlayStation account addressed the issue, attributing it to a “tech error” with the Official News feature on the PS5 console. The company clarified, “There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”
Players Remain Unsure About Sony’s Explanation
Despite Sony’s clarification, some users weren’t fully convinced, speculating that it might have been a subtle attempt to push ads onto the dashboard. Many argued that publishers often use the Official News feature to promote sales or new releases, which may have led to the confusion. However, most signs point to the issue being nothing more than an odd glitch.
The issue was sorted out quickly, and by Monday evening, PS5 dashboards were back to normal, as many users confirmed. Although the bug was fixed, it left the gaming community worried about whether ads might appear in future updates. To make matters worse, the PlayStation Network also went down briefly after the glitch, frustrating players even more.
