PS5 Pro May Launch In Second Half of 2024

It’s been just over 3 years since the PS5 launched and we are beginning to reach that middle point of the consoles 7 year expected life cycle which can only mean one thing, a new model. If we look at the PS4 Pro, that launched 3 years after the PS4 so naturally information is starting to spill regarding a PS5 Pro which could be launched by the end of the year.
PS5 Pro Late 2024
A report shared by CNBC has suggested that Sony are preparing to launch a refreshed variant of the PS5 this year. Industry analysts have made these claims with Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based games consultancy Kantan Games, stating “There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024,” Toto further expanded on this with the claim that this “Sony will want to make suer to have a great piece of hardware ready” for GTA VI which is arguably the most anticipated game of recent years which will release in 2025 for consoles.
Moving on to rumoured specs for this console, we turn to information shared by VideoCardz. This console is expected to use AMD’s 4nm Viola SoC as opposed to the 7/6nm Oberon (Plus) in the PS5 and PS5 Slim. The CPU config is still expected to be an 8C/16T Zen 2 chip but with increased speeds up to 4.4 GHz an increase of 0.9 Ghz from the 3.5 GHz of the PS5.
The GPU should see some big improvements going from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 and will feature 30 WGP/60 CU as opposed to 18 WGP/36 CU, there isn’t much further information on that but the memory config of 16GB GDDR6 on a 256 Bit bus remains the same but with an increased bandwidth up to 18 Gbps.
As always with rumours, take them with a grain of salt, but I can see this rumour being quite believable mostly based on the GTA VI claims.
