PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is hardly a new game. To date, with it being released on PC, Xbox One and mobile platforms it has proven to be very popular, albeit not quite matching the success of Fortnite.
There has, however, been something of a major omission in the PUBG release roster. Namely, that despite it being available on PC (for around 2 years) and Xbox One (for around one year) it has still not been released for the PS4.
Well, that is about to end as in a report via Polygon, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground will release on the PS4 on December 7th.
It is believed that the game will release via the store with 3 separate tiers. There will be a base version of the game, a slightly more costly “Survivors Edition” and a top-level “Champion’s Edition”. It’s unclear what these bonus versions will include. The chances are that it’ll mostly be based on skins rather than any additional content.
With Sony likely to relax their rather strict policy on cross-compatibility (basically, they don’t really one), this could prove to be a highly popular release for the console. PlayStation owners have been waiting a long time for this and in fairness, it’s no fault of the developer.
Whether it’s a bit late to the party or not? Well, that remains to be seen.
