PUBG Mobile Quickly Catches Up To Fortnite

PUBG Mobile
Love it or loathe it, the battle royale genre (that really took off in 2017) showed little sign of slowing down throughout 2018. In fact, it’s not even showing much sign of diminishing in 2019. Then again, the next ‘big thing’ is always just around the corner. The one thing we did see this year, however, was Fortnite really cement its position of dominance over PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
This was, of course, something a little unusual as PUBG did release several months before Fortnite came to the market. In terms of the mobile market though, there does appear to have been something of a reversal.
In a report via The Verge, despite Fortnite releasing much sooner on mobile platforms, PUBG has now officially at least matched it in terms of player numbers.
Mobile Gaming
Now, I must admit, to me mobile gaming (at least in the terms of a shooting game) is something of an anathema to me. I understand why they are popular, but I personally wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. I am, incidentally, very happy with Professor Layton on my iPhone. I must admit, however, to being very surprised to see that PUBG does, despite its PC complexity, run exceptionally well on a mobile device.
It isn’t perfect, but it’s by no means bad either!
How Many Players?
Both PUBG and Fortnite now report having over 200 million mobile players. In mobile terms, these are pretty huge numbers. You could, however, easily assume that the vast majority of these people simply have both games. I suspect that those who have individually chosen to just stick with one of them is very slim indeed.
It is, however, at the very least, positive news for PUBG in a small reversal of fortunes against Fortnite.
