PUBG Releases Update Addressing Rubber Banding Issue

PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds has released their first update for the PC. It addresses one of the game’s most annoying problems: Rubber banding. Rubber banding is what happens when the server and the PC have unsynchronized information regarding the character position. On the patch notes, the term in use is “character position readjustment issues”. The development team is careful not to use the word “fix” outright, but rather say they are “addressing” the issue. Which suggests that the latest update does not complete relieve players of the problem.

Rubber Banding is More Complicated Than It Seems

According to the release notes, “there is a combination of causes that lead to the in-game lag and character position readjustment issues”. Furthermore, it adds that “the issues cannot be attributed to one or two causes and have stemmed from a combination of different factors”.  Suggesting that continuously working on and investigating the problem further is necessary.

Aside from the rubber-banding adjustment, the update also changed the map selection ratio to be equal for Erangel and Miramar. The replay system also gets a revision which protects players from revealing their position. Players can now only view game replays from 3 minutes after death.

Other fixes from the update include:

  • Fixed the issue where some buildings and objects were not marked on the Miramar world map.
  • Reduced occurrences of the issue where replays occasionally crashed back to the lobby screen.
    • On restarting a replay, it will continue where last viewed.
  • Fixed the issue where the beginning of the Death Cam and replay was missing.
  • Fixed the issue where players couldn’t earn BP.
    • We will update with a compensation plan soon.
  • Fixed the issue where players could die unexpectedly from fall damage.
  • Fixed the issue where bullets couldn’t penetrate particular fences from both sides.
