Since taking the gaming world by storm PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG) has been one of the most dominant games in recent memory. Cruising to 20 million sales on PC alone, a Xbox One version was released just before Christmas.
Despite all this, PlayStation owners might have been feeling a little left out. Well, there’s good news and bad news for them. Good news PS4 owners, you will very likely get a PUBG release. The bad news? It’s not going to come any time soon.
Speaking via Polygon, the CEO of the PUBG Group, Chang Han Kim, said that: “It’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now.” He added that: “If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.”
Continuing in the internet, Chang Han Kim said that quality control was a major factor in the decision to not as yet expand beyond PC and Xbox One. “Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release. So they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took six months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.”
It therefore seems clear that Sony’s quality control might me the reason for the lack of any upcoming PUBG release. As above, however, I don’t think PS4 fans should worry too much, it will come, but likely not until it is finished.
With PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds recently smashing its own concurrent player record on Steam, there’s no reason to think that they would not release on PS4 without a good reason.
