QNAP and Platform9 Join Forces to Provide a Hybrid Cloud With OpenStack

QNAP Systems announced the integration between QNAP NAS and Platform9, the open source-as-a-service company making cloud infrastructure easy. This new cooperation will provide a powerful hybrid cloud solution that is remarkably easy to deploy and use across OpenStack environments. Platform9’s managed OpenStack solution enables OpenStack users to use QNAP NAS for compact and highly reliable on-premises data storage.

“The release of the QNAP and Platform9 joint solution is very exciting! While deploying, managing, and updating pure OpenStack environments can be difficult and time-consuming, the integration of the QNAP Cinder driver in Platform9’s OpenStack-as-a-service provides a simple way to deploy OpenStack for production environments,” said Meiji Chang, General Manager of QNAP. “Businesses can keep their data on-premises on QNAP storage, and use Platform9 to seamlessly manage their infrastructure.”

With its flexibility, security and reduced costs, businesses are increasingly adopting OpenStack for their IT infrastructure to implement hybrid cloud deployments. Platform9’s OpenStack-as-a-service solution provides simple, open, and enterprise-ready services to enable instant deployment of OpenStack environments. Now, businesses can easily configure QNAP NAS as block storage supporting their OpenStack environment. With the QNAP Cinder driver (which is fully integrated into Platform9) users can easily add the Block Storage Role on some of their compute nodes from the Platform9 management interface without needing to manually install the driver. Besides the streamlined deployment process, the Compute Nodes can utilize the space on QNAP’s Enterprise ZFS NAS (an enterprise-grade storage providing active-active High Availability, snapshots, data deduplication and compression) and QNAP’s business-class NAS series for powerful and feature-rich storage solutions.

“Enterprises are increasingly realizing the business value of OpenStack for managing production workloads, particularly in hybrid cloud environments,” said Adam Ulfers, VP of Sales at Platform9. “Our integration with QNAP allows us to better meet the demand of a fast-growing global market for OpenStack-as-a-service offerings to better manage cloud infrastructure.”

As far as compatibility, the enterprise ZFS NAS and the TES-x85U series are configurable for Platform9’s OpenStack-based private cloud solution. You can read more about the feature by clicking here.
