The QPAD MK-90 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is available from Overclockers UK for £119.99, making it one of the more affordable RGB gaming keyboards on the market. It’s obviously still not cheap, but for the level of features and quality on offer, it’s certainly competitive.
Overview
I really like what QPAD has done here, it’s not perfect, but in terms of performance and specification, it’s got all the thrills you could ask for in a gaming keyboard. Let’s take a quick look at what could be improved first. The wrist rest is a really nice addition and it works very well at providing extra comfort for those long gaming sessions, but the cheap plastic clips and the gap between the keyboard and rest could be improved; although this is true of many keyboards with detachable wrist rests. The kickstands are also fairly standard, and more durable ones would be ideal. Finally, the Kailh Red switches aren’t quite as light on the fingers as their Cherry counterparts, albeit only by a little bit. None of these are deal breakers, not by a long shot, but if QPAD can refine these aspects a little, the MK-90 could be one of the best keyboards on the market.
The RGB lighting is a nice touch, with some cool effects and it’s pretty easy to customise it to your liking. Everyone likes a great looking product on their desk and the bright and colourful lighting is a very easy way to add some flair to your desktop setup. However, it’s the other built-in features that really stand out on this keyboard, such as the macro recording, multiple built-in profiles, N-key rollover, adjustable repeat rate, multimedia functions, USB and audio pass-through, and so on. These all add to the overall value of the keyboard, but they’re also all adjustable directly on the keyboard, meaning you’ve got everything at your fingertips, even when you’re in the middle of a game.
Build quality is pretty good overall, apart from what we’ve already discussed. The chassis is quite thin, but rigid and durable, giving the MK-90 a good weight that keeps it firmly planted on your desk. The matte finish and the slim bezel around the keys are also welcome bonuses, giving it a sleek and stylish look. Add to that the thick black braided cable, and you’ve got a pretty robust setup that’s going to look great on your desktop.
