Bethesda’s latest first person shooter is now confirmed to be heading for a Steam release soon. The news comes directly from senior producer Jason Bergman who divulged the information at a recent developer Q&A. The beta version of the game is currently only available through Bethesda’s own launcher.
According to Bergman, an actual Bethesda account registration is necessary. However, users can simply use the Steam launcher once available, bypassing the Bethesda Launcher software entirely. This is great news considering Steam has a much larger user-base. Installing another developer/publisher-specific launcher is not exactly an appealing suggestion to many gamers.
The game itself will be free to play with the Ranger character, with other characters available for purchase. In its current beta state, players can try out the characters for free as Bethesda continues to add more. In terms of game modes, the company is not currently prioritizing adding more than what is currently there. However, they are taking in suggestions from the community. For example, fan favorite BJ Blaszcowiczk from the Wolfenstein series is now in the roster. After that announcement, many long-time ID Software fans are demanding that Commander Keen should be in the game.
