Qualcomm Says Microsoft’s Surface 2 Is No Match For Nokia’s Lumia 2520

Nokia recently unveiled its Lumia 2520 Windows 8.1 RT tablet and its main rival is going to be Microsoft’s new Surface 2 Windows 8.1 RT tablet. Qualcomm recently chipped in with their thoughts, via CNET, expecting the Lumia 2520 to do much better than the Microsoft Surface 2 thanks to the Snapdragon 800 SoC the Nokia tablet uses.

“The performance on [the 2520] is brilliant,” Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management for Qualcomm’s application processors, told CNET. “It’s really at the next level. It’s not even really a contest [compared to Surface 2] … In every area, it’s much bigger, faster, and lower power.”

Microsoft’s Surface 2 uses an Nvidia Tegra 4 1.7GHz quad core SoC while Nokia’s Lumia 2520 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core SoC clocked at 2.2GHz. Nokia’s Lumia 2520 should therefore be more powerful at productivity and gaming tasks than the Surface 2.

Despite the competitive rhetoric from Qualcomm the fact of the matter is neither tablet will probably do that well since consumers are reluctant to get on board with Windows RT. Dell, HP, Toshiba and HP have all so far ditched Windows RT tablets and unless things pick up with Windows RT tablet sales more vendors could follow suit.
