QSAlpha Quasar IV Encrypted Phone Begins Production For Q2 2014 Launch

QSAlpha’s Quasar IV is apparently “the world’s first self-authenticated cipherphone designed to protect your identity”. QSAlpha launched an IndieGoGo campaign for the handset around 3 weeks ago but since then they’ve fallen significantly short of their $3.2 million target. Currently they’ve cranked up just $50,000 but apparently they have raised enough interest and created enough buzz to attract the right people to the project.

Engadget reports that QSAlpha will start production of the encrypted handset immediately with the device being ready for a launch in the second quarter of 2014. The Quasar IV has the follow features:

Advanced trusted-authentication technology called Quatrix

Unique digital signature and key computation methodology to protect your digital identity

Quad-core 2.3GHz CPU, 3GB RAM, 64/128GB encrypted local storage and 128GB encrypted cloud storage

Dual rear cameras for advanced augmented reality applications

Android OS with an encryption layer

Open SDK for the developer community

Dual LTE with support for 3G and GSM networks

QSAlpha are currently asking for $495 for the Quasar IV 64GB Edition and $665 for the Quasar IV 128GB Edition as part of the IndieGoGo campaign. You can check out full details of the campaign here.

Would you buy this phone or does it take online and personal security too far? Or does it simply cost too much? – Tell us what you think!
