Be Quiet! is a highly-respected manufacturer of various hardware components and specialises in making sure each product they design runs exceptionally quiet. Their power supplies have won numerous industry awards and offer fantastic reliability. Here at eTeknix, we employ a wide range of Be Quiet! power supplies for our test rigs and they’ve been so solid under extreme load. The company’s no gimmick approach to development is to be commended and anything they create has a professional aura.
Today, Be Quiet! unveiled their new Pure Power 9 series which features fixed cables and wattage options between 300 to 700 watts. On another note, Be Quiet! have been working incredibly hard to improve efficiency ratings and keeping up to date with technological developments. For example, the 400 watt Pure Power 9 utilise “Active Clamp + SR” topology. As a result, the Pure Power 9 achieves an efficiency rating up to 91 percent which translates to an 80 Plus Silver certification. This is really impressive when you consider the range’s affordable prices which start from £37.99 and go up to £74.99 for the higher wattage models. The lower end units still manage to be 80 Plus Bronze certified. Be Quiet! also implemented two independent 12-volt rails to improve signal ability compared to its predecessor.
The Pure Power 9 complies with Energy Star 6.0 and ErP 2014 guides and supports C6/C7 low power states. Additionally, each model has under voltage protection, over voltage protection, short circuit protection, overload protection and much more. Be Quiet! even installed a “Surge Absorber” to prevent damage from occurring during electrical fluctuations.
New components and optimized fan for quiet operation
Alongside the improved “Active Clamp + SR” topology, be quiet! has optimized components to prevent power supply noise caused by extreme load changes of modern graphics cards. Further noise reduction comes from a comprehensive optimization of the fan: the new 120 mm fan is based on the Pure Power L8, but significantly reduced both the motor and bearing noise. Combined with the air flow-optimized rotor blades and additional, separate temperature control sensors, this results in the best noise-to-cooling performance ratio. Overall, the Pure Power 9 is much quieter than the previous model.
Modern cables with all required connectors
be quiet!’s new models now sport black sleeved high-quality cables, which leads to a clean and modern look in the PC. One of these cables is an “all-in-one” cable with a practical Easy-Plug HDD connector. The Pure Power 9 series comes with four (600 and 700 watts) or two (400 and 500 watts) 6 + 2 pin PCI-e connectors and is ideally equipped for high-end or dual-GPU systems. The 300 and 350-watt models offer a 6 + 2 pin PCI-e connector as well. As a result, the Pure Power 9 offers the best possible combination of features, performance, and quality at an attractive price point.
