be quiet! Power Zone 1000W Modular Power Supply Review

A Closer Look – Exterior

Power Supply Unit

In true Be Quiet style the Power Zone 1000W is a very nice looking power supply. The aesthetic is dominated by the Silent Wings fan with a fan grille and some plastic edging.

Around the back we find the usual hexagonal mesh, a power switch, kettle lead input and some patterning from the plastic edging materials.

On the connector end the modular connections are all clearly labelled so are easy to follow, we also see three fan ports to allow you to control your fans through the PSU too.

Both sides have a textured black finish with the Power Zone branding on. That branding is flipped on either side to account for different ways of mounting.

On the bottom we find the label with all the rails, watts, amps and certifications detailed.

Cabling

In terms of cabling Be Quiet offer three PCIe cables with two 6+2 pins on each cable, two CPU 8 pins of which one is 4+4 and the other normal 8 and a motherboard 24 pin. The quality of the sleeving is a little dubious and the multi-coloured cabling and connectors leaves something to be desired.

Additional cables include the cables for hooking up fans to the PSU as well as some molex, FDD and SATA connectors.

  1. Teapo are high quality? Things have certainly changed since the days I used them.
When I worked on the bench back in the mid 80’s to late 80’s repairing switching PSU’s was my job and Teapo were a cheap and nasty brand of cap we used to buy use because they were far cheaper than Nippon Chemi-Con and a lot easier to obtain. Generally they were good for about 9 months then they began to swell, leak and pop but those PSU’s were not PC PSU’s but heavy duty PSU’s used in large mainframes, in fact so much current ran through them that they buzzed and it was nerve wracking to to thread a screwdriver past the heatsinks and exposed coils to tweak a potentiometer.

Anyway I’m rambling on now. What I’m getting at is Teapo have been around for a long time and I guess their components have improved considerably because a lot of reputable manufacturers use their caps.
