A Closer Look
The HIS R9 270X IceQ X² Turbo Boost graphics card measures in at 26cm/10.25 inches so it is quite a lot smaller than the HIS 280X which uses a larger version of the IceQ cooler that is 30cm/ 12 inches long. The fans have also been down-sized slightly from 89mm to 86mm to fit into the more compact design. The outer-shroud appears to be made of some kind of light-weight metal composite.
The PCB is blue which deviates from the black design AMD uses on its reference boards. Of course some people may dislike this but blue is HIS’ trademark colour so I don’t think it will change any time soon.
The end of the graphics card is open for additional ventilation.
The bottom of the graphics card reveals the end of five capped heat pipes.
The top reveals a maze of heat pipes and the HIS logo. The overall aesthetic is actually very nice – I think HIS have a good design going on here.
Two 6 pin PCIe connectors provide power to the GPU.
There is a single CFX connector for 2 way CFX.
The heat pipe configuration is five 6mm heat pipes, all are nickel plated copper.
The rear I/O provides HDMI, DVI and dual mini DisplayPort.
