Adding Support for the EPIC Games Store
Earlier last week, AMD released their 18.12.1 beta drivers adding support for Just Cause 4. However, now they have released a new version adding a ‘.1’ at the end, making it version 18.12.1.1. This is a highly unusual release for Radeon drivers. Even more unusual is the fact that this update is not for one particular game. In fact, the only support this update adds is for the EPIC Games store.
What is the EPIC Games Store Anyway?
EPIC Games has announced a few days ago that they are gunning for Steam with their own release platform. Those are bold words considering how massive Steam’s user base is. Even other video game stores offer a redeemable Steam key so gamers could curate their games with the same launcher.
However, EPIC Games is big enough (especially with Fortnite) that they can do this. Besides, they are offering developers with a generous profit share package.
Furthermore, EPIC Games has hired Sergey Galyonkin as director of Publishing Strategy for EPIC Games. Galyonkin revealed that he has actually been working on this secret project for years. He of course, is mostly known as the guy behind ‘Steam Spy‘. So there is no other person on the planet who knows about Valve’s platform (with the exception of Valve employees) than him.
Where Can I Download These Radeon Drivers?
Follow this link to download this latest version. Other than adding official support for the EPIC Games Store, this driver package lists two known issues:
- Some systems running multiple displays may experience mouse lag when at least one display is enabled but powered off.
- Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey may experience a game crash at certain locations of the game on Windows 7 enabled system configurations.
