The rumour mill was grinding pretty hard this week, as it came to light that Gearbox may be turning their online shooter, Battleborn, into a free to play game over the coming months. Of course, this was something to be taken with a pinch of salt as Kotaku claimed it has sources saying the announcement would be made in mid-November.
This would be a big deal for the game, which is currently sold as a full retail game, as F2P often results in a complete rebalance of items and features in a game to accommodate the free and premium user bases accordingly.
With Battleborn struggling in terms of sales, it seemed inevitable that this deal would go through, but Randy Pitchford has stepped in on Twitter to dismiss the rumour.
With 2K games having success turning Evolve into a F2P game, it seemed like it would push them to do the same for Battleborn, but for now it seems that rumour was simply that, a rumour.
