Ray-Reconstruction is a new technology that debuted alongside DLSS 3.5 and only currently works with Path Tracing (RT Overdrive) meaning that the performance on older 30 series and 20 series cards is hindered by their lack of access to DLSS 3 or 3.5. Fortunately, there are some mods and tweaks that can allow Ray Reconstruction to work with Ray Tracing rather than just Path Tracing which will allow for pretty visuals with somewhat better performance over Path Tracing.
As shared by Techpowerup, a user named Daemoni73 on Reddit has shared a simple trick that they “copy/pasted from somewhere” that enables DLSS Ray Reconstruction with Ray Tracing as opposed to Path Tracing. This method requires a simple change on a config file and allows you to experience the crispness of Ray Reconstruction without the higher performance costs of Path Tracing on older RTX series graphics cards.
I tried this myself and it appeared to work well with minimal performance impact. My 3090 Ti at max settings, 3440×1440 with DLSS Balanced managed to maintain around 50-60 FPS in the city with the occasional drop to 40, which may be down to the 5600x bottleneck, don’t worry I’m upgrading soon.
Ray Reconstruction is a nice option to be able to have though it is strange how we are only able to enable it through the config with NVIDIA and CD Projekt Red deciding to not make it an option in the actual game menu.
