Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 Tournament Edition Review

Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2

There are few brands in the world that can command a fan base quite like Razer. Even their fans openly discuss the fact that it’s become cult-like within the gaming community. There’s are those who pretty much flat out hate Razer and everything they do, I’m not sure why, but there are. Razer has created some amazing products over the years, not every product, but they’ve obviously had more successes than losses. Their Blackwidow range is by far one of the most popular in the world, and now they’re back with a new and improved model!

The new Blackwidow Chroma V2 Tournament Edition is here, and it comes packed with all the latest Razer luxuries. Of course, for one of their flagship series mechanical gaming keyboards, you would expect the best features from a product that costs £139.99. You’ll find Razer’s own design mechanical switches, a TKL compact design (no number pad), their latest wrist rest, Instant Trigger Technology, Chroma V2 backlighting, detachable cables, and more.

Features

  • Razer™ Mechanical Switches with 80 million keystroke lifespan
  • Tenkeyless compact layout
  • Ergonomic wrist rest
  • Fully programmable keys with macro recording
  • Instant Trigger Technology
  • Razer Chroma customizable backlighting

The model we’re reviewing today is the Razer Yellow switch, this is their fast and silent switch. It’s similar to an MX Red and MX Speed, in that it’s linear, light and has a shorter travel distance. The Tournament Edition is the same hardware as the full-size model, albeit in a less wide format that ditches the number pad. You’ll find 10-key roll-over, and anti-ghosting, gaming mode, macro recording, and more.

Specifications

  • Razer™ Mechanical Switches with 50g actuation force
  • 80 million keystroke lifespan
  • Razer Chroma customizable backlighting with 16.8 million color options
  • Compact layout
  • Ergonomic wrist rest
  • Razer Synapse enabled
  • 10 key roll-over anti-ghosting
  • Fully programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording
  • Gaming mode option
  • 1000 Hz Ultrapolling
  • Instant Trigger Technology
  • Detachable braided fiber cable with cable strap

What Razer Had to Say

TOURNAMENT-GRADE PRECISION

“Designed specifically for gaming, Razer™ Mechanical Switches provide optimized actuation and reset points so commands are executed exactly as they should—with blazing fast responsiveness. And with different switch types, you’ll find one engineered to suit your preference.” – Razer

COMPACT & PORTABLE

“With a tenkeyless design, the keyboard provides all the essentials while freeing up desk space for your mouse movements. Its sleek form factor and detachable USB cable also makes the keyboard perfect when travelling.” – Razer

INSTANT TRANSMISSION. IMMEDIATE RESPONSE.

“Upon actuation, the new Razer Instant Trigger Technology (ITT) immediately sends the signal to your system, canceling any need for a debounce delay. Thanks to this instantaneous response, you get industry-leading speed for an unfair advantage no matter what game you’re playing.” – Razer

What’s in the Box

Aside from the keyboard, you’ll find a very luxurious wrist rest, as well as a durable braided and detachable USB cable. I like detachable cables, it makes the keyboard easier to transport, store, and you can replace the cables if they get damaged, or you want a different length cable.
