CES 2016: Razer’s latest Stealth Blade ultrabook can be accompanied by an external graphics card enclosure which supports a maximum size of 5.98 in./152 mm (Height) x 1.73 in./44 mm (Width) x 12.20 in./310 mm. This is more than enough to accommodate the majority of GPUs available today including the unbelievably long Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X which measures 305mm. The installation procedure only takes a matter of seconds as the aluminium housing slides open without any effort and only requires a single screw to hold into position.
Even more fascinating, AMD GPUs are hot-swappable with a single Thunderbolt 3 USB-Type C cable. This is unlike anything I’ve seen before and a huge selling point. Please note, this is only possible due to AMD’s drivers and any NVIDIA GPUs will blue screen and require a hard reboot.
On another note, the device only requires a single PSU cable which powers the unit while charging the main laptop. This cuts down on clutter and makes the device a more portable proposition. Other features include Gigabit Ethernet, Chroma lighting, and four USB 3.0 ports. Overall, the Razer Core impressed me a great deal and the advent of hot swappable AMD GPUs is fantastic!
