Razer Electra Headset Review

It was a refreshing change testing this headset, after testing a few gaming headsets recently it was nice to have something that involved getting out the house, with a set of features that make these headphones suitable for use on mobile phones, mp3 players and portable gaming devices, I decided to get out in the sun and go for a wander.

I started off by connecting the in-line microphone, running it through my HTC Desire to test out its phone call capabilities, there was an instant leap in quality for me, speech playback through the headphones was loud and clear, if a little heavy on the bass, but that could have been the thick yorkshire accent of the person I called.   As for the microphone, the performance was stunning, it may only be a small mic but it provided better results that the one built in to my phone, so a big thumbs up to Razer for making this compatible with phones, assuming your device supports a 4pin 3.5mm jack of course.

Next up was music, which is a big deal to me, I love a very wide spectrum of music and I’m a musician to boot, so audio reproduction is a big deal to me, fortunate then that the Razer Electra sound absolutely fantastic! the only thing I did find is that you should leave your EQ flat, it was the only way I could provide a clear reproduction, clean bass and not compromise on the mid and high tones, I’m not sure if they have a “pre-set” EQ built into these headphones, but either way it does a great job, so long as you don’t try to fiddle with your own EQ.

Music sounds nothing short of stunning on these, everything from classical to death metal rings out clean and true, with thumping, distortion free bass and perfect high notes, I highly recommend this headset for any music lover, you won’t be disappointed.

Next up was gaming, I’m not one for mobile gaming, but it seemed a shame not to put these to the test, so I borrowed my friends Vita and DS for the afternoon to see how they held up, what can I say that I already haven’t though, just as with music the gaming audio was superb, I couldn’t find a fault with them no matter what I tested them with.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
