Razer Ouroboros Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

Typically I like to run these performance tests over a decent length of time to continually assess the performance, comfort and issues that would not be apparent upon the initial testing. I normally run these tests for a week or two of continual use in both typical day to day use, browsing the internet etc to full on gaming sessions lasting many hours. These lengthy tests are very suitable to the Razer Ouroboros as it would also allow us to assess the battery life when in wireless mode.

Gaming

First up is the gaming tests, which already mentioned, ran across a fairly lengthy period to fully assess the performance. Normally I stick to playing Battlefield 3, which has a multitude of different vehicles which all require different sensitivity levels – great for a mouse that has such a high-spec sensor, thus a greater DPI range. In the past I’ve found some wireless mice to not cut it during the fast paced shooters, often producing some significant lag. With the Ouroboros, I did not notice a single issue with the lag, and it performed just as a wired mouse would. The on the fly DPI changing buttons were great for when in a tank or attack chopper, and the medium DPI levels were great for when on the foot. If anything, I noticed a small jump in my performance levels – I was reacting quicker,  pulling off more incredible and accurate shots when in a tank.

I also fired up some Borderlands 2 for some single player gaming and again the performance was flawless. The mouse was comfortable – even during those long hours of completing quests and assigning the melee attacks to the thumb buttons made it much easier to defeat my enemies. It wasn’t until I had been using the mouse for about 8 hours (two gaming sessions), that I started to notice the almost zero battery level, so I had to quickly plug in the USB cable – a little fiddly, but it meant I could carry on gaming.

General Use

It goes without saying that the Ouroboros was a great mouse not just for gaming, but also for things like browsing the internet, editing photos and just general day to day PC use. The changeable sensitivities is ideal for editing images or making subtle adjustment to 3D models. The wireless aspect is also very handy as there are no wires to get in the way and all you have to do is drop it on its charging dock over night for a whole days use. The symmetrical shape did lead to some discomfort after many hours of use though, particularly if you use the claw grip like myself, although to counter this, you could just have more breaks.

Now, let’s bring everything together to conclude this review.
