For those of you who’ve been around for a while, you might recognize the Deep Note that plays before many movies. That is created by THX, a pioneer in the sound and audio technology industry. Started by Geroge Lucas back in 1983, the company has spent most of the past decade owned by Creative Technology. The company has now acquired a new owner, gaming company Razer.
As one of the first to standardize audio for movies, THX holds a special place a brand that any moviegoer would know. In recent times, the company has branched off in an attempt to diversify into other audio markets. This is where Razer comes in. The company is hoping that they can use THX as a way to bring their main brand into the mainstream. Beyond gamers, Razer isn’t that big of a brand but with THX attached, that all changes.
On the flip side, Razer is aiming to use their existing partnership and network to help THX diversify and reach a more global audience. For now, both companies will operate independently, with THX keeping their staff and leadership as is. THX is also free to make its own partnerships separate from its parent. There is no word yet if we will be seeing THX branded Razer devices or vice versa. No other terms of the deal were public.
